I work mainly in sculpture and ceramics as well as in mixed media and installation. For me, the exploration of materials is an important part of the art making process and informs the meaning of the finished piece. My work focuses on ideas of nature, the body, and perception.

Environment is a key theme in my work. I incorporate natural and recycled materials into my work because the physical byproduct of the art making process beyond its time on display is important to me. The interaction of my pieces with the environment around them emulates ideas of impact - how we impact the space around us as well as how it impacts us.

Many themes of my work overlap. I am especially interested in the textures created by the deconstruction of natural forms through processes like rotting, molding, and melting. At first glance, the works may appear to have gone bad, but frozen in the moment, one can see the beauty in the process of natural decay. I use this decay as well as gravity to talk about various concepts including mental states.

Another concept I’ve been focused on lately is the body; its importance to both broader society and to oneself. Why are certain things desired or important about the body? What are the effects of mental states on the body? I ask these questions through an exploration and distortion of anatomy.

Going forward with my art, I want to explore more materials and start working more on installation work as I continue to talk about human connection, nature, and the body.
